It’s May and that means one important thing for lovers of hybrid Toyota vehicles – the third generation of the Prius is available to the general public this month. With a new more aerodynamic body design, an estimated fuel economy of 50 mpg, and a bigger 1.8-liter engine for added power, it’s the best car available for summer driving.

At the New York International Auto Show, the third-generation hybrid Toyota Prius was getting a lot of praise from car buyers who are keeping an eye on gas prices. They’ve been down for a little while, but everyone still remembers when gas was pushing $5.00 – and we all know how easily it can jump up there again, especially as demand for gas goes up when summer draws everyone out on the roads.

The New York Daily News reported that the hybrid was drawing interested and excited New Yorkers, who aren’t generally concerned about economy so much as they are about good looks. But then, the hybrid Toyota didn’t disappoint them on that point, either. Many of the admirers were also commenting on the Prius’ fine style.

Bumping up the environmental factor just a little bit more, the third-generation Prius is available with a Solar Roof package with a power sliding moonroof and solar powered ventilation, as well as optional LED headlamps.
