Honking the Horn in Your Hybrid Toyota

Every hybrid Toyota, new or used, has a horn on the steering wheel. We all know that if you press it you can make a loud noise. You can make a series of honks or one loud, long wave of sound. These horns aren’t for playing around with as you drive the St Louis streets, however. Horns are meant to warn others of danger as you drive. So, just what is the etiquette regarding using your car’s horn?
First and foremost, the horn in your hybrid Toyota is a communication device. If you are in danger of hitting someone or you need to let them know your car is there, honking your horn can be a great way to get their attention. When it is used in emergency situations, it’s a communication device that is essential to safe driving. The problem with car horns is when people use them for other purposes.
We all get angry while driving. Even if the driver in front of you just cut off your hybrid Toyota, you still shouldn’t honk your horn at them. It’s never good to answer rudeness with rudeness, but it will also distract other drivers when there is no real emergency. You also shouldn’t honk your horn just to say hello. Again, you can distract other drivers who need to keep their concentration on the road. You may get your friend’s attention, but it’s just not worth the risk.
As you drive your hybrid Toyota through the St Louis area, take the time to think about when using your car’s horn is really a good idea. As long as it’s to warn someone of danger, you should be using it. Be sure that you’re not using it when it’s not warranted, however. You wouldn’t want to cause an accident!
