HubcapsYour St Louis Toyota dealer knows that you’re probably pretty familiar with hubcaps. We’ve told you all about how they originated to protect lug nuts from the elements, and how there are a variety of snazzy aftermarket caps that you can get for your new or used Toyota. Did you know that there are other uses for hubcaps that don’t involve cars, however?

Your Toyota dealer has learned that a hubcap is actually a pretty good container for a small campfire. Of course, you want to make sure that it is clean and free of oil and debris. Simply clear the area around the hubcap and make sure it is level. Then, load it up with kindling and firewood of the appropriate size, and get ready to start a friendly fire. You’ll find it’s a great way to heat up a rustic meal or to roast some marshmallows for s’mores.

When times are tough, some people have even used hubcaps for cookware. While this isn’t recommended for general use, it’s certainly better than nothing if you are stranded in the wilderness and need to find something to cook with. Just like a frying pan, the hubcap can be used to fry fish or other game. It may not be glamorous, but it definitely works.

One very imaginative use your Toyota dealer has heard of is using old hubcaps and other scrap metal to create art. There are artists who cut and weld these materials to create beautiful objects from metal that would otherwise be recycled. Now, recycling is a great way to take care of old materials that have outlived their usefulness, but this reuse of the hubcaps has led to some really creative sculptures of animals, people, and other works of the artists’ imaginations.

Take it from your Toyota dealer—there are so many ways to reuse the materials we use in our everyday lives. Isn’t it amazing to think that a simple hubcap can do all of this?
