The Iconic Toyota Supra

The Toyota Supra is a classic sports car that was originally produced by Toyota from 1979 to 2002. The Supra was one of the most popular sports cars that Toyota ever made, it was originally designed after the Celica, and in fact the very first Supra wasn’t a model at all, it was an upscale trim level of the Celica, so the first 2 generations were actually called: Celica Supras.” Although the Supra was longer and wider than the Celica making it a larger car, the engineers at Toyota built the original Supra to have just as much power as the Celica.
In 1992 the Supra went on hiatus and then made a debut again in 1993, this new Supra was pure performance, according to sports car enthusiasts, “luxury gave way to horse power,” as the new Supra could go 0-60 in less than 5 seconds. The engineers at Toyota went so far as to hollow out the spoiler (and even the carpet fibers) in order to keep the weight at a minimum to enable the Supra to go as fast as possible. The engine was a 3.0 liter dual cam inline 6 cylinder with 220hp, but the turbo option delivered 320hp. The standard Supra had a 5 speed manual transmission, but the turbo engine was a 6 speed. If you wanted an automatic, that was available, but considered an optional feature.
Toyota discontinued the sale of the Supra in 1999 and officially stopped production in 2002 in Japan. The Toyota Supra is defiantly an icon in the history of automobiles, there have been many television shows, video games, and movies featuring the Supra as it has become well known for its power and speed, the popular sports car was even awarded its own logo once it broke away from the association with the Celica.
